Dr. Brenda M. Linnell (née: Brenda M. Porta Briseño), earned a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Masters and Bachelor in Chemistry with honors from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Her research focused in organic synthesis and analysis of nanostructured materials.

Brenda has been a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) since 2006.

In August 2011, she joined Northern New Mexico College as Assistant Professor of Chemistry. She has served as honor Student Faculty advisor since 2011 and as SACNAS Faculty Advisor since 2020. She has been a strong advocate for science outreach in the community constantly participating with workshops and volunteering with STEM Santa Fe, GEAR UP New Mexico and UNM Research Cancer Center
